LIVEWIRE General Manager, Ernie Parker, has confirmed that two champions will be crowned on the first edition of his EOW show.
The former ‘Don of Wrestling’ has devised a huge, roster-wide tournament that will see the coronation of both the EOW Atlantic and EOW Heavyweight Champions, whoever they may be.
Speaking exclusively to eowrestling.com, Parker explained: “Fans want to see champions and that’s exactly what they’ll get with the first edition of Livewire.”
“The tournament will feature every active roster member of the [Livewire] brand, all of whom will compete in a series of singles matches to qualify for the main event. The main event will then feature the winners of those qualifiers and will be contested over three stages,” stated Ernie.
He continued: “The first stage will be a battle royal elimination match, where elimination via pinfall or submission occurs until only three fighters remain. At that stage, the match will change to a triple threat ladder match for the EOW Atlantic Championship.
Once a winner has been crowned in that match, a cage will lower for the final stage – a triple threat, escape only cage match for the EOW Heavyweight Championship.”
The format of this tournament, could – in theory – result in a double champion; something that the Livewire General Manager is well aware of.
Parker said: “We want to showcase the very best as our golden standard and I can’t think of a better way to achieve that than to put our finest three through their paces in a ladder match and then a cage match. If one person wins both titles then they’ll have earned that right, particularly having survived a qualifying match and an elimination battle royal beforehand.”
The news of this unusual, yet innovative tournament broke literally moments after it was confirmed that Valentina Lemay would be conducting a championship tournament that begins on the first Victory event and concludes at Epic, their inaugural super show.
“If [Valentina Lemay] wants to wait nearly two months to crown champions, that’s her decision,” insisted Parker.
He went on: “I’m well aware that titles don’t make wrestlers, wrestlers make titles – which is exactly why I want to reward the tremendous efforts of my stars as soon as I possibly can. I don’t have to wait two months to make sure the right fighters are crowned champion; I have an entire roster of former champions. There is no wrong answer.”
While it’s still not certain when Livewire will announce the dates of its first show, speculation is mounting that a statement could be released on Sunday, September 4th. Regardless of when the first show airs, one certainty is that the night will end with the crowning of two new champions.
