Kimitsu Zombie walks along the neon reflecting on the sleek rain covered streets to the restaurant in Chinatown. She keeps her hood up since she doesn't own an umbrella and wades through the walking traffic like a shark through water. She enters the restaurant with the biggest neon sign on the block and looks for her meetup but something else stops her. A figure dressed all in white drinks tea in the corner table and smiles a toothy grin behind a tatooed face. The kanji marks speak of peace and he achieves it through violence. She slowly walks up to him like she's walking to the gallows and bows deep when she gets there.
“Sensei. What are you doing here? I'm meeting with Hope soon.”
“Sugoku Zombie-gumi, acting as your agency, canceled that interview. You talk with me now. I have some questions and I want to talk more directly,” he says as he motions for her to take a seat. She looks around the restaurant and joins him. A waitress brings her some sake.
“Did you order this for me? I thought you didn't approve of me drinking.”
“There are a lot of things that you do that I have grown accustomed to. Sake is much lighter than your usual swill. This latest action of yours, however, is the boldest I’ve ever seen you. What brings this anger onto yourself? Is this going to become a pattern?”
Kimitsu palms her cup. Tokyo Zombie fills it for her and she drinks. It would be another one of those conversations. “This is just the way I find that has a more direct impact.”
“Tell me about this woman you attacked. Is she some evil person out for destruction? Is she a devil in disguise out for blood? Does she try to do wrong at every opportunity? What kind of Agent of Darkness is she?” He sips his tea and stares at her through his gleaming eyes that can look right through her and make her feel like the inexperienced teenager he took on years ago.
“Candice is not a bad person exactly. She is just the wrong type of person to be where she is headed. It’s where I should be headed. Their type is just-”
“A target?”
“A distraction.. The clan sent me out into the world to gain followers, right? You want to influence people to be better and to not let any negativity into their lives. Well she is a negative influence. She is all flash and no substance. I see her as a bad influence, sir. I’m just doing what I can.”
Tokyo Zombie stays quiet and lets her vent.
“I'm not like you. I don’t attract the monsters and the dark ones. I have to seek them out myself. I am not going to be a reactive hero. I'm going to be the one that initiates the changes I want. That’s how I gain influence.”
“What of the consequences? A crusading ally is out for you now. How will you handle this?”
The waitress brings some rice to the table and Kimitsu stews in her seat. She takes the sake bottle and fills the cup herself. “Mason is nothing. He’s just one of her admirers that thinks he is defending her vulnerability. Everyone was so sad they weren’t there to do something. She makes women look weak. I can’t have that.”
“I have watched him make some big threats against you. He is confident that he will use your anger to play you like a yoyo and defeat you to regain his honor. How do you plan for this?”
“I'll let him think he knows my whole game. He basically predicted the whole match. I know I can lose my focus when I get angry but I will use it to force a victory in this match. I will not be taken lightly by him and I'll show him what he is up against the second the bell rings. He'll let me fight back until I am actually fighting back. Then he will be in trouble. His own bravado will backfire.” She looks into his eyes for the first time with excitement and he goes stern.
“If you continue on this path of defining and seeking out your own demons, you might lose sight of what is right or wrong.”
“What I do with true conviction is what is right.”
“I do believe in you. Let us eat.”
