It had been a handful of days since the attack on Livewire, when Candy was seen sitting in front of the vanity mirror inside the bedroom of her Las Vegas condo. She has on a nice looking dress and her hair was done up as she went about putting extra make-up on over the bruise on her face. It was fading, but still noticeable. After a moment, Deacon Thomas entered the room and took a seat on the bed behind her. Candy could see his reflection in the mirror as he went to speak.
"This shouldn't have happened to you."
Her boyfriend was still clearly upset over the attack on her.
"Mason was supposed to be watching out for you. That's what he was there for!"
Candy sighed as she put her concealer down and turned to face him.
"We've been over this. I told you...I sent him away."
"But why would you do something like that given the situation? And more importantly, why would he listen to you?", he questioned with some irritation as he covered his face with his hands and shook his head, "It just doesn't make any sense to me."
As Candy stood up from the padded bench, she walked over and removed his hands from his face so he'd look at her.
"Because I thought I had it handled. I didn't think I was going to have any problems. I had Kimitsu to back me up...or so I thought. I didn't realize she was the enemy.", she frowned slightly at the thought, "As for Maddy, he's probably still kicking himself in the backside for listening to me."
"As he should be.", Deacon replied bitterly.
"Oh c'mon, cut him some slack. This wasn't fault. He was only doing what I asked. You would have done the same."
Deacon looked like he was about to protest, but then sighed heavily at her words.
"You might be right."
That didn't mean he sounded happy about admitting it though.
"Look, I don't blame you for being upset. I'm not too thrilled about what happened either. But let's just put this out of our minds for tonight and have a good time. Where are you even taking me?"
"That would be a surprise."
For the first time, Deacon cracked a half smile.
"Of course, it is.", Candy replied back with a smile of her own, "Well, we should get going then."
As she held out her hand to him, Candy added, "What do you say?"
Deacon took a breath. He was going to do his best to put this out of his mind and give Candy the night she deserved. With that in mind, Deacon stood up from the bed and took her hand as he led her from the room.
