What is the difference between perceived reality and actual reality? Is there anything substantial to perceived reality? In a business that is rather cut and dry, with no wiggle room for nonsense, does anything subjective really have its place? You see, I ask these questions because when Declan Black and I go over our first match in our heads we both have two clearly different perceptions about the path traveled from start to finish. That is seemingly where his focus lies, on what he believes to be the case. Myself, well, despite being looked at as some rookie who is waiting in the wings for the next generation to become the current generation, I know better. I’ve been at this for eight years and I have just as much understanding about how this business works as anyone else.
I don’t have websites to posts blogs on, or limousines to carry me from my large estate in the Hamptons to a studio in New York where I can record promotional work. All I have is a friend who can hold a camera for me and allow me to upload my own thoughts to YouTube. I’m thankful for that. I’m thankful that I haven’t lost myself in the money or the fame associated with being successful on a national and international level. I bring my hard hat and lunch pail to work every single day and I give it my all. Sometimes it’s enough. Sometimes people like Dick Devereaux get involved. Sometimes you just have an off day. Everyone has them.
You used to understand that, Declan, and it showed in your wrestling. I used to love turning the television on and watching you compete because you could see in your words and through your actions just how much you truly loved this business. Somewhere along the line you’ve lost that love. I’m not sure if it’s the injuries slowing you down that has caused you to become so bitter, or if it’s the fact that time has simply lifted newer, more fresh and more charismatic faces to the spotlight and left you behind. Whatever it is, you’re not the person or the talent that you once were.
The last time we spoke we mentioned that which cannot be taught. That, of course, being the fact that Declan’s body is breaking down on him and mine is not. Today we focus on that which cannot be caught. Deep down in his heart of hearts Declan knows what you all know. He can’t catch me. I’m too fast for him and too patient for him. I bet if you were to run one of Ash Scions infamous psychobabble analysis scans on Declan you’d find that one of his biggest weaknesses is facing a competitor who is an aerial threat. Take a moment to guess who thrives in the air. Who is it that Ernie Parker, just a few short weeks ago, claimed to have helium in their blood? You know the answer.
Where Declan is the weakest, I am the strongest. He wants to keep this match on the mat and if I was someone who was looking to attack him on a technical level, I’d be screwed. You simply aren’t going to out wrestle Declan Black on the ground. Everyone knows that. But if you take the match to the air, and use quickness and grace, he has no answer for it. There’s no two ways around that simple fact. If you were to objectively look at our entire match leading up to Dick’s interference you would find that that simple fact holds true. I maintained momentum throughout that match. Yes, there were times where Declan was able to swing momentum in his favor for a moment but even then he couldn’t keep me there. He couldn’t keep up and that’s no slight against him. He’s just not the caliber of superstar that he once was.
You perceive this match as an opportunity to redeem and reestablish yourself, Declan. I know you do. You believe that this is your first stepping stone on the path to taking that championship from Aidan Carlisle.
My friend, I think you’re going to find the actual reality to be much more cruel, cold and uncompromising when it’s my arm raised at the end of our match.
Catch me if you can.
