Ok so back in Engage Davey asked this question and I thought it was interesting to read what other people thought. I copied this word for word from Daveys thread so enjoy!
How do you see your character? As a kayfabe sports entertainer? Or as a legitimate fighter engaging in 100% real competition?
I'd love to hear reasons why people see their characters as kayfabe wrestlers and performers. I'd also love to hear reasons why people see their characters as 100% professional competitive athletes.
How do you see it? Is your guy a professional wrestler, whereby every fight is like an MMA competitive fight? Or is your character in on the result, win or lose, with the opponent? Are the feuds kayfabe? Does the answer depend on how the fed you compete in views itself? Can you be one way and other handlers in the same fed view it another way?
What are your thoughts and/or feelings on this subject?

Legit. I mean, Ash, more so than any of my other characters, was built solely on the premise that in the 'E-Fed World', pro-wrestling is 100% legit.

I feel that Tyler is a legitimate fighter, but not as far as to say that he is as legitimate as a MMA fighter. I envision him as a fighter that does like to wrestle properly with real moves and holds, but always wants to have a way of escaping any danger should it get too tough.
I guess it does actually depend on how the fed views itself, but if left to my own devices I'd say that answer.

I think it is how the fed presents itself. I've seen a fed present everything as kayfabe (feuds, relationships, etc) and that is quite fun to be apart of. No real grudges off-camera so to speak. Everyone is treated as if they are actors on a show. That is how the fed was presented.
Then other feds present themselves as very real and they are fun too, getting more into it with everything having more of an effect on people which is very different to the type above and certain moves like a Powerbomb for example is basically a match ender.
I portray Trixie based on how the fed is. Best of Both worlds...

I play it as if it's legitimate.
I find it gets too confusing to have a kayfabe part.

Legitimate fighter. Legitimate competition.
I've had this discussion with people before and never really saw the benefit of the other side. If you view your character as an actor and the storylines as a work, when does that side of your character ever come out?
Furthermore, if you're already writing for a fictional character, why would you be unwilling to go along with the added conceit that the sport is also 100% legitimate? It feels as though it's just adding an unnecessary layer to something that's better off left alone.
Maybe I'm missing something here.
